About

Dawn Parry & David Cameron Campaigning in Newport East
Dawn Parry is the Conservative PPC for Newport East. Newport East is a seat that we can win, there were just 250 votes between the 3 main parties in the 2009 European elections. Dawn grew up in the Rhondda valleys and attended the Upper Rhondda Comprehensive School.
Dawn, a business woman as well as a Unitary Authority Councillor in North Somerset and a Town Cllr (defeating the local Lib Dem parliamentary candidate in 2007) and a campaigner against anti-social behaviour.
I am a keen rugby supporter, and a former Welsh swimming champion and a published songwriter. My husband is Head of Maths in a secondary state school and we have two sons. I am very proud to have been selected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate to represent Newport East.
In 2005, Jessica Morden the current Labour MP won with a majority of 6,838 over the Liberal Democrats, with the Conservatives coming in just 98 votes behind putting them in third place. Since 2005 there have been enormous political changes in Wales, and particularly in the Newport East area.
Newport East is run by 2 Councils – Monmouthshire County Council and Newport City Council. BOTH councils are now CONSERVATIVE run. Newport City Council is Conservative held with the coalition of the Lib-Dems. We now have 3 Conservative AM’s in the constituency too, William Graham AM, Mohammad Asghar AM (who crossed the floor to join us) and Nick Ramsey AM. Then in 2009, Kay Swinburne was elected as Wales’ Conservative MEP. Her election in June 2009 was notable for being the first time the Conservatives topped an election in Wales since 1918.
So, we CAN win in Newport East. Please help us win in whatever way you can!
